A very successful Workshop Day was held on Saturday 15th May 2004 when the orchestra of about 45 players, many of whom were new to the SSO, rehearsed a variety of different works. At the short concert at the end of the day the highlight was the performance of Rachmaninov's 2nd Piano concerto with soloist Mariella Cingo. Mark Slater conducted the premiere of his "New Beginning" which was well received by the audience. Soup and sandwiches were served in the middle of the day, and the whole event was enjoyed by all.
